Who we are

A Welcome from Karen Hill, Diocesan President

Karen1Welcome to the website for Mothers’ Union Diocese of Chichester – supporting family life in Sussex since 1891!

Mothers’ Union is an international charity, which works with people of all faiths and none. It is both all around the world and just around the corner!

Here in the Diocese of Chichester, Mothers’ Union members pray with their feet moving to encourage, support and promote marriage and a safe family life across Sussex.  Each of the 40 branches is different because no two villages, towns or cities in Sussex are the same. Each has its own needs and our members meet those needs.

Mothers’ Union is a grass roots movement, and members lobby locally, nationally and internationally on issues that affect family life.

In the Diocese of Chichester, Mothers’ Union offers free holidays to families who could not otherwise afford one, through our “Away From It All” (AFIA) project.  We also partner with the Family Support Work charity to run the Eastbourne Family Contact Centre which enables children to spend time with a non-resident parent in a safe, neutral environment, supported by trained volunteers.

Amongst so many other things,  members are involved across the region in their local hospitals, supplying emergency wash bags, knitting hats for premature babies and visiting children’s wards weekly with homemade cakes.

Members also run Parenting courses, send Christmas cards to those in prison and provide a warm welcome at Citizenship ceremonies. Enjoy browsing this website to find out more about Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Chichester.
